2013 Prima

100% Mourvèdre
Making its debut in the established line-up, Prima is a pure testament to the quality of the Spanish and French Mourvèdre clones grown in our elevated and limestone enriched soils. With only aging in 30% new French oak from both puncheons and barriques for 20 months, Prima is not just a stunning wine, but also a sensual experience. It instantly greets you with ripe blackberries, granite-like minerality and a slightly smoky, yet sweet, vanilla-oak influence. Opulent black cherries establish a rich and bold sweetness and texture that will envelop your palate like a wave. The finish is savory and the fine-grained tannins will have you yearning for more over the next 12-15 years.

Tasting Notes
A wine with some upside, the 2013 Prima checks in as 100% Mourvedre that was brought up in 228- and 500-liter barrels (20% new). Its vibrant purple and opaque color is followed by classic California Mourvedre aromas and flavors of passion fruits, sappy flowers, mint and plum pit. Full-bodied, with no hard edges, notable freshness and purity, and beautiful tannin quality, I suspect it might close down over the coming year or two, but it should have 10-15 years of prime drinking.
