We are lifelong skiers, cyclers, and wine devotees. So what is the common denominator? The zest to "have game" at the highest level. After making the decision to pursue the art of wine, we searched throughout California for the perfect place to establish a Rhonish focused wine project. We were blown away by the beauty of the Central Coast, and even more by the terrific wines of West Paso. After two years of scrutinizing different potential sites, we found the perfect ground, now the vineyards of Law Estate Wines. Our goal is to blend the terroir, the winery facility, and our talented team to create a memorable and site specific offering of ultra-premium wines.
Scott Hawley has been a part of the Law Estate Wines project since the original plantings in 2008. He consulted on the varieties and clonal selections that best fit our vineyard site. Most of all, his style of winemaking resonated with Don and Susie Law.
Prior to teaming up with the Laws, Scott had been creating highly regarded wines from some of Paso Robles most significant vineyards for over 16 years. Through his experiences, domestically and abroad, he has developed a deep appreciation for the philosophy that wine is first an expression of place. Scott believes his role is to simply create an environment throughout the grape growing process where the fruit is given the greatest opportunity to perform to its potential. It is then, through blending, that he arranges the wines to showcase the best of what the site and the vintage has delivered. From the dirt on his boots to his wine stained hands, it is obvious he loves the process as much as the result, and his enthusiasm is present in every wine he makes.
Devoted to a family legacy, and a fanaticism to be a part of a spectacular vineyard site and winery, Oliver and wife Kelli Law Esparham started their professional transition at first planting in the Law Family Vineyard. In years of cellar work with Scott Hawley, the enology and viticulture program at UC Davis, and walking the vineyard rows with the youngest grape lover, Sophia Snow Esparham, Kelli and Oliver are excited to help in sharing the wines with everyone that they can.
Born in Languedoc Roussillon, and then raised in Bordeaux, Arnaud was born into a family where all members were dedicated winegrowers and winemakers. As Arnaud's passion grew for growing vines and making incredible wines in Bordeaux, his interest was piqued by the process of getting the product in the consumers' hands. From here, he enrolled in the Marketing and Sales program at INSEEC University of Bordeaux. Looking for adventure with his brother Guillaume Fabre, he traveled to the United States to explore the production side of wines, which is when and where he met Chloe Asseo from L’Aventure. This meeting solidified Arnaud's place in Paso Robles, and was the catalyst for becoming attached to the wines here at Law. Pedigree and passion seem to always follow this incredibly talented and affable gentleman around.
With a degree in Ag Business and a concentration in Marketing from Cal Poly, Adelaida’s love for all things wine is apparent in everything she does. She joined the Law Estate Wines team in October 2013, prior to opening, and has been a true asset in making the Law experience what it is. She came to us with years of hospitality experience from some of the best wineries in Paso Robles. Born and raised in the area, she is great at sharing her knowledge of Paso wines and its history with the entire team.
Levi Glenn grew up near Healdsburg where he started working in a neighbor’s vineyard at the early age of 13. After completing his Viticulture and Enology degree at Cal Poly, Levi returned to the North Coast to manage vineyards in Napa and Sonoma. Missing the vibe of the Central Coast, he and his wife Katie returned when he accepted a job at Tablas Creek Vineyard. Levi is excited to be one of the driving forces of the Law team and he feels privileged to look after this amazing vineyard site.
Recently graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, with a B.S. in Graphic Communication, Mariah joined the Law team as their Creative Director. When she is not busy capturing and designing our essence in various mediums, Mariah spends her time in the tasting room hosting clients and sharing the wines with them. Her fiery personality and fresh take on the media side of the industry have allowed her to take Law Estate Wines to the next level. She is a great example that wine and design do indeed mix.
Philipp joined us just in time for our 2016 vintage. Philipp is originally from Munich Germany, making the move to Miami at age ten. In 2008, he traveled to New Zealand to pursue his Masters in Wine Science. Splitting his time between the northern and southern Hemispheres has allowed Philipp to work at some incredible producer’s in New Zealand such as Kumeu River, and Dry River, as well as Château Angélus in Saint Émilion and Screaming Eagle in Napa. Wanting to find a place to settle down in the industry, Philipp knew that Paso Robles was where he wanted to be and these were the incredible wines that he wanted to craft. He loves working alongside Scott and Levi to produce premium wines that will continue to put this area on the map.
As a graduate of The Art Institute of California Orange County, Chris comes to us with a strong background in the culinary arts. He spent two years traveling as a consultant for The Lazy Dog Café and three years as a chef at The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach. After relocating to the Central Coast from Los Angeles, his passion for wine grew tremendously. Chris is an excellent fit at Law with his desire to learn, passion for wine and food, and eagerness to jump in the kitchen to create decadent cuisine to excite everyone’s palate.
Well versed in wine production, Pedro Vazquez is a huge asset as our cellar master. Diligent as he is energetic, Pedro has proven faithful to his craft by continuing his education in any way he can and by always striving for professional growth. When he is not playing, watching or praying for the Dodgers, he is happy to help with anything and everything asked of him at the winery and his passion for wine is apparent in all he accomplishes.
Rachel has a knack for hospitality, as she has worked in the restaurant and service industry for over 15 years! She brings a lot to table and our team as she is always finding new ways for us to continue to provide a top-notch experience while she exemplifies the qualities of someone eager to learn about wines of the world. Rachel grew up on the Central Coast but enjoys travelling to experience other cultures and admiring the beauty of the surroundings. Her love for exploring the world, trying new foods, and pursuing wine and education made her stand out and a wonderful asset to the Law team everyday!
After visiting Paso Robles, Carolyn and her husband fell in love with the Central Coast and made the decision to move permanently. Carolyn has an MBA from Cal Berkeley and started consulting as an accountant with a number of small businesses in the area. She worked three years for another large winery before retiring (temporarily) to babysit her granddaughter. She has graced us with her love of wine and learning, and feels very fortunate to be a vital part of our team!
Maggie has recently graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Industrial Labor Relations and aspires to attend law school in the near future. Born and raised in Paso, this local girl has grown up with the wine industry right in her backyard and has a very qualified pallet for such a young age. Her education of vineyard knowledge stems from her family who has been growing wine grapes in the Paso region for years. Her bubbling interest in this industry even led her to take some wine-focused classes at Cornell to better expand her experiences. In her free time, Maggie enjoys riding her horses, practicing yoga, and exploring new foods and wines both locally and internationally. Maggie’s ability to share her local familiarity and her charming personality are the perfect pairing for the Law team.
Currently pursuing a degree in Event Management and Hospitality just down the road at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, Taylor comes to Law with valuable knowledge of the service industry as a whole. Although she is new to the world of wine at age 21, she is enthusiastic about exploring the many facets of this business and sharing these findings with the people she hosts in the tasting room and at events. When she isn't pouring in the tasting room, Taylor enjoys being outdoors and training and riding her horses. Her motivation to discover new wine techniques, team-first mentality, and ability to provide exceptional hospitality to everyone she meets have made her a great asset to the Law team.
