Don and Susie Law
We are lifelong skiers, cyclers, and wine devotees. So what is the common denominator? The zest to "have game" at the highest level. After making the decision to pursue the art of wine, we searched throughout California for the perfect place to establish a Rhonish focused wine project. We were blown away by the beauty of the Central Coast, and even more by the terrific wines of West Paso. After two years of scrutinizing different potential sites, we found the perfect ground, now the vineyards of Law Estate Wines. Our goal is to blend the terroir, the winery facility, and our talented team to create a memorable and site specific offering of ultra-premium wines.
A fanaticism to be a part of a spectacular vineyard site and winery, Oliver's professional transition began at the first planting in the Law Family Vineyard. In years of cellar work with Scott Hawley, the enology and viticulture program at UC Davis, and walking the vineyard rows with the youngest grape lover, Sophia Snow Esparham, Oliver is always excited to help in sharing the wines with everyone that he can.
Philipp joined us just in time for our 2016 vintage. Philipp is originally from Munich Germany, making the move to Miami at age ten. In 2008, he traveled to New Zealand to pursue his Masters in Wine Science. Splitting his time between the northern and southern Hemispheres has allowed Philipp to work at some incredible producer’s in New Zealand such as Kumeu River, and Dry River, as well as Château Angélus in Saint Émilion and Screaming Eagle in Napa. Wanting to find a place to settle down in the industry, Philipp knew that Paso Robles was where he wanted to be and these were the incredible wines that he wanted to craft. He has loved working alongside our inaugural winemaker, Scott Hawley and is now excited to take over as Winemaker and continue to produce premium wines that will continue to put this area on the map.
With a degree in Ag Business and a concentration in Marketing from Cal Poly, Adelaida’s love for all things wine is apparent in everything she does. She joined the Law Estate Wines team in October 2013, prior to opening, and has been a true asset in making the Law experience what it is. She came to us with years of hospitality experience from some of the best wineries in Paso Robles. Born and raised in the area, she is great at sharing her knowledge of Paso wines and its history with the entire team.
Levi Glenn grew up near Healdsburg where he started working in a neighbor’s vineyard at the early age of 13. After completing his Viticulture and Enology degree at Cal Poly, Levi returned to the North Coast to manage vineyards in Napa and Sonoma. Missing the vibe of the Central Coast, he and his wife Katie returned when he accepted a job at Tablas Creek Vineyard. Levi is excited to be one of the driving forces of the Law team and he feels privileged to look after this amazing vineyard site.
Graduating from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, with a B.S. in Graphic Communication, Mariah felt right at home joining the Law team as their Creative Director. When she is not busy capturing and designing our essence in various mediums, Mariah spends her time in the tasting room hosting clients as well as managing all wine memberships and shipping orders. Her fiery personality and fresh take on the media side of the industry have allowed her to take Law Estate Wines to the next level. She is a great example that wine and design do indeed mix.
Jessica grew up on her family’s ranch in Rio Vista, California. She attended San Diego State University, and graduated with a degree in Public Relations and Public Administration. She became enamored with Paso Robles wines upon her first taste of Grenache in December of 2010, which was quickly followed by her obsession with the Paso Robles’ small town feel and warm hospitality that came with it. Jess joins the Law team as the Marketing Manager where she will help communicate and organize marketing efforts across all platforms and departments. In addition, she will also be showcasing our wines not only in the tasting room, but also pouring at marketing events nationwide.
Well versed in wine production, Pedro Vazquez is a huge asset as our Assistant Winemaker. Diligent as he is energetic, Pedro has proven faithful to his craft by continuing his education in any way he can and by always striving for professional growth. When he is not playing, watching or praying for the Dodgers, he is happy to help with anything and everything asked of him at the winery and his passion for wine is apparent in all he accomplishes.
While a mathematician by trade and expert skier on the side, Kelli Law has a passion for everything Law Estate Wines, and is devoted to her family's legacy. On any given day, Kelli and her daughter Sophia, can be found driving the mule in the vineyard, tasting grapes and or in the tasting room pouring wine and sharing stories of their family with all of our members and guests.
Sophia Esparham, granddaughter of Don and Susie Law, has grown up around the winery eating grapes and catching lizards. She has been recently promoted to her position of "kitty wrangler" when the staff of Law adopted 3 kittens last Fall. Sophia is in elementary school, but enjoys coming to the tasting room on the weekends to say hi to guests and sign their bottle of our white wine, Soph, named after her.
Growing up locally, Kaci has always had a sweet spot for the area and has been excited to watch it grow. After graduating from Cal Poly with a degree in Agricultural Science and a minor in Agricultural Business, Kaci found herself passionate about Paso Robles wine and started focusing on the industry in the realm of hospitality and events. In the 2019 vintage, Kaci was hired on as our harvest intern, learning the ins and outs of Law’s signature winemaking practices and vineyard protocols. Her experience in the cellar serves as a great attribute to the marketing and sales team, as she now spends her time assisting with launching the brand across all platforms, while also educating guests in their hosted tastings.
Lexi Marcillac joins us as the youngest member of the Law Tasting Room team! Lexi is currently in her second year studying Experience Industry Management down the road at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. When she is not studying for school or playing an integral role in helping run her sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, Lexi loves to make a great first impression as she greets our guests upon their arrival with not only a chilled glass of rosé, but also her delightful and bubbly personality. Even though she had an in with the company being cousins with Mariah, she has wasted no time in impressing both our team and guests daily on her own accord.
Marianne grew up in various areas across the country before graduating from Texas A&M University with a degree in Marketing. Her true love for wine began in the mid 90’s with a three year stint of living on the border of Germany and France drinking “table” wines from the local farms and vineyards. After living in California for 24 years, she now considers herself a California girl. Marianne and her husband escaped the corporate world in San Francisco and in 2017 purchased a small vineyard property in Templeton where they grow grapes for local wineries. Marianne has a knack for all things luxury and premium and she is excited to host fellow wine lovers who not only share her passion for the finer things in life, but also share her love for Law Estate Wines.
Shelly relocated from Indiana to the Central Coast less than 3 years ago. She fell in love with wine while working in fine dining during college. The Indianapolis Athletics Club supported Shelly’s wine training with the International Sommelier Guild where she completed her Advanced wine Certificate (AWC). She also was responsible for bringing people together for fund-raising and networking opportunities, while also freelancing as a wine consultant for restaurants and private buyers before fulfilling her dream of making a life for herself and her daughter in California. Shelly has always kept her hand in the hospitality industry and is incredibly exited to be a part the team. Like Hemingway says: ''Wine is the most civilized thing in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing.''
After attending Mira Costa College in San Diego, Evan’s entrepreneurial spirit and passion for building relationships launched his career in the customer-facing hospitality industry at age 21. Evan jumped head first into the world of restaurant management with three restaurant opening teams starting in 2010. Evan strengthened his love for viticulture while opening a boutique wine bar and embracing the world of ultra-premium wines. In 2017, Evan relocated his life and career 300 miles north and landed in Paso Robles. Evan has found his calling in the Central Coast wine industry and has true passion for the wines he shares at Law. If Evan isn’t enjoying fine wines, you will find him swimming, cycling or running with the goal to make it to Ironman Kona one day.
Originally born and raised in Southern California, outside sales in the wine industry brought Diane to the Central Coast eight years ago. She instantly fell in love with the Central Coast and quickly realized that this was home. Her passion for wine is only topped by her passion for people and being given the platform to share her experiences and knowledge with others on both a personal and professional level made joining the Law Estate Wines team a perfect fit! She is all about experiental moments and creating an environment where wine can be both educating and celebrated! Her expertise in facilitation, entrepreneurial skills and charity events paired with her tenacity and determination made her any easy choice to join our team!
