When we planted Law Vineyards we anticipated the Grenache being incredible. We then opted to blend a fair bit of Syrah for its reliability from vintage to vintage in our area and its flexibility as a blending component. We planted 5 clonal selection on 5 different blocks each with a subtly different aspect. As expected it does amazing things in our blends. What surprised us a little bit was how incredibly good it would be on its own. Utilizing punch downs for cap management and a long slow fermentation we manage to get wines with incredible texture and weight with plenty of acid to keep them fresh and never cumbersome. Once basket pressed the wine is barreled down to 228L French oak barrels of which 50% to 55% are new. A variety of coopers, forest selections and toast levels are used to age the wines in a manner that helps the wine develop but respects the nature of the fruit. The wine was aged on its lees for 22 months prior to bottling unfined and unfiltered.
