Displaying a serious intensity of color, this structure driven Syrah is overflowing with intrigue: round and chalky tannins; stunning elegance and balance from the signature brilliance of the Law finish; and astounding length from notes of roasted espresso beans, blueberries, black currants, and toasted spice. Overall, the 2012 Intrepid is truly stunning from its inherent complexity, length, balance, and mouth feel. And with the incredible structure it will only continue to impress over the next decade or two.

The estate’s Syrah-dominated cuvee is the 2012 Intrepid, which includes 5% Grenache and was raised in 50% new oak. Savory and with tons of chalky minerality, it has lots of cassis, dried herbs, dried flower and spice aromas and flavors, full-bodied richness, an awesome texture and building tannin that emerge on the finish. It’s another terrific wine from winemaker Scott Hawley that will deliver the goods for at least 5-7 years.

Inky purple. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe blackberry, blueberry and sandalwood, along with a suave floral overtone. Weighty yet graceful, offering intense black and blue fruit flavors and hints of candied violet and licorice that build in the glass. This impressively fresh, focused wine finishes with strong thrust, smooth tannins and a lingering floral quality. Distinctly elegant for its power and built to age.

Plush and burly, showing lots of personality, this is not a wine for the faint of heart. Aromas of dark berry, spice cake and pepper beef lead to dense, layered flavors of smoky plum, grilled sage and lead pencil. Syrah and Grenache. Drink now through 2027.
